The Dunes of Destiny

OK, that's not their real name. But I don't think these Dunes have a proper name, and they should if for no other reason because of their beauty! These dunes are located midway between Utah hwy 24 and The Hans Flat Ranger Station. We just had to stop upon seeing them for the first time. Since it was mid day with harsh light, Infrared was called for. I need to get back someday at golden hour. 665nm converted Nikon.

Very cool - I like seeing this area in IR.

I know these dunes quite well after living about 1/4 mile north of the Hans Flat ranger station for 8 weeks when I was in archaeological field school in 1975. We drove though them every week when we got to go into Green River to do laundry and get our weekly shower at the KOA.

Thanks Jim. We almost didn't stop, as we knew we would be returning the same way three days later, and we wanted to continue on to Panorama Point and set up camp. But we did stop for a while because me and my buddy both had IR cameras with us. Of course on the way back out it was heavy overcast so we were happy to have images from earlier.

Actually having a cold beer in Rays tavern (even though it was 3.2%) was the highlight of the day. After the shower of course.
