The High Meadows Above Paradise

Those high meadows are cool. The area above Paradise is my favorite in Rainier.

This feels like a TSE image, with everything feeling straight.

Thanks Jim - panoramas like this was one of the main reasons I originally bought a TS-E lens. I took this shot right after doing something similar facing the other direction looking at Mt. Rainier. I was originally going to meet up with Doug Sherman up at this park later this week but he had to cancel this trip. I decided to go up there anyway since I had reservations just outside the park already and was antsy to get out of the house for a few days. The TS-E lens will be in my bag.

I am surprised to see lupines still blooming and a few paintbrushes. There is no red color yet, either. I would have thought that by now, at least some fall color would be showing up.

I really like the way the tilt-shift lens straightens out everything.

I am really sorry that I had to cancel, Alan. I was looking forward to seeing you again.

Thanks Doug - this panorama is from a trip back in the second week of September 2011 I found as an unprocessed set in my archives. I was looking for places I might try to hit up when I drive up there later this week. Meeting up with you was going to be the highlight of the trip so I am sad you weren't able to make the trip. I'll try to take some extra pictures on your behalf :)

Not sure I will try to fit in hiking up to the high meadows like I did for this scene. I was staying at Paradise Inn during that trip and had more time to wander compared to this week's excursion. I am thinking more of waterfall destinations at this point but will leave my options open.

There are a fair number of obstacles/closures in the park right now. I was exploring the possibility of coming up via Packwood and the Stevens Canyon road but there is a bunch of construction near the park entrance that has that road closed for a lot of Wednesday. Paradise Inn has lost its water supply due to some damage from a heavy rain event. The only working flush toilets on the south side of the park are on Longmire. Parking may be limited at Longmire and Paradise due to pavement rehabilitation work going on right now as well. Glad I won't be navigating all of this in my old RV.
