The Monkeyhead Nebula

I captured this with the Seestar S50 a week ago. It's totally processed on the iPhone from a stacked jpg file you can save. The Seestar has its limits, but I have to say images like this are why I got it.

It's about 1.5 hours of integration with 30 sec subs of I recall.

All comments are welcome,

Jim

That seestar seems to be earning its keep and then some. That combined with processing this on your iPhone is a compelling combo for astro.

Thanks Jameel.

It's a great setup for someone new to Astrophotography. The processing of Astro images is actually the hardest part of Astro. So if people can start this way, then they can work their way up to more complex processing as they grow.

I can see this really working great for outreach events too with minimal setup and processing.

Thanks Ed.

There are lot's of guys using these at Outreach events. It's hugely popular because of the simplicity of it. They have added some new controls to the app that you can adjust saturation and contrast while it's stacking. That's not as great as taking the finished stacks, but for a live view on an ipad to be able to get it to pop a bit more works great.

I just looked up what type of telescope that is and that is interesting. Self automated type of telescope for Astro photography. Technology has improved so much that I think it’s interesting how easily some of these objects can be captured. Looks like a great edit and capture to me. I’m happy with shooting just with my iPhone as you have seen, but that’s pretty neat.

It is pretty cool what they have done at that price point. There is another Smart Telescope about the same price, but the quality isn't as good, and the other Smart Telescopes all run from $1500 to $4000. One could get better images at that point by buying dedicated pieces. But some people like the Smart Telescope and don't want to get involved with a complicated setup. For me, it's not ever going to replace my regular gear, but it's so awesome to have something that when I am surprised by either a clear sky or a surprise opportunity to image, I can throw the SeeStar out and be imaging in 5 minutes. Where as my regular gear to set it up wouldn't be practical. So I still get cool images I get to look at and play with.

Yeah, you have a very nice thing going with what you are doing.

Nice version for a quickie :)

And think, this was processed on my phone. Not Pixinsight, no outside stacking. This is simply from the stacked jpg that Seestar App saves to my phone, and then some editing in PSExpress on the phone. I should edit this in Pixinsight and see the difference.

I would love to see what else you can come up with...
