The Rainbows At Night

Hi y'all

The Yosemite Moonbows are almost as elusive as the Firefall. I was lucky enough to get both the Upper & Lower Yosemite Moonbows on the same night a few weeks ago.

The lower Yosemite moonbow is very challenging to shoot, I & students got soaking wet even with the umbrellas.

Your comments & critiques are welcome.

Oliver

Very cool Oliver! The Lower falls is definitely a lot of work to get. My go to was not an umbrella as the wind can catch them too easily, but using a poncho over myself and my camera. Then I could clean the water off the lens underneath the poncho. Then I would lift the poncho and press my remote release at the same time for one shot, then drop the poncho and wipe the lens dry again, and repeat... Lot's of work no matter how you do it.

Neat pair of shots. I can see how you would get wet with the scene at the Lower falls although its nice I can appreciate the view warm and dry in front of my monitor :)

Jim, thank you for the tips ! That's what I would do if I am there by myself. With 4 students, I had to use my body & umbrella to shield them, nevertheless, it was a fun night.

Great effort, Oliver! I prefer the Lower shot as it doesn't have the shadow of the bridge. I admit I have mixed feelings about the Moonbows shots: hard to come by & I appreciate the effort in getting the shots, but most people process them so that it looks like daytime. Your sky is a deep blue & stars are visible in the Lower shot, but I wonder if non-photographers would realize what they're looking at.

Two very nice images, Oliver.

Thank you Jameel.

Thank you, Monika. Yes, the moonbow looks totally white to the naked eyes, yet it's unreal given the closeness.
