The Rock that Could

During this trip to the Tetons and Oxbow Bend, I became very fascinated with this rock down in the river. Probably too fascinated with it. Often I will get comments to clone it out or crop it out. Yet, still I like it. :)

This was a really crazy sunset. One in which there was really too much happening at once. Besides the normal nice sunset, there was that intense display of red from the sun as it was setting behind that hill on the right. I tried to capture it all in various compositions and focal lengths. This one shot I like because it's wider and it takes in all of that crazy color.... oh and the rock...

All comments are welcome,

Been there, but never done THAT !

Outstanding color palette; one I've never seen before, yet beautifully natural.

For me, Rock On !

I like the rock - and especially the way that it is sort of an anchor for that part of the scene. The patch of indirect light on the meadow on the right of the river lines up with the intense part of the sunset both in reflection and in the sky. This works. Don't crop the rock out.

Gorgeous light, never had such luck at Oxbow for evenings. Looks like spring or early summer. I also like the rock and a wide shot works fine here since Moran is backlit anyway.

Super shot with all the color, reflections and mountain majesty. Uh, but that "rock", down here in the SE we would call that an alligator! ;)

Thanks you guys. I am glad you like the shot and the rock!

Ben, yeah this is a summer shot, which being that far north feels more like a spring shot often with the wildflowers that are up.

This was from a camping trip with 4 of the grandkids with the youngest I think only about 4 months old. It's great that they all like to hike and explore and camp. They also tend to sleep late and go to bed early. So I could leave them in the tent with my daughter while I would sneak out early for sunrises, or head out before sunset to shoot. It's nice to be able to get out with kids that age and to really not end up with any photography restrictions! :)
