I could not figure out how to add to my other post on the Step Pyramid once I added the video so I am adding a part 2 as this has some interesting images and history of this old area.

The Step Pyramid complex at Saqqara (near Memphis) is a vast 3rd Dynasty (c. 27th century BC) mortuary site designed by Imhotep for Pharaoh Djoser, featuring the world’s oldest colossal stone building. The complex includes the 6 tiered 60 meter high pyramid,
These following images show the courtyard, and moutuary temple

#2 It was pointed out to look at how straight, plumb and the tight fitting joints were on this old structure made with primitive tools.
Or was it made be aliens?

# 3 So I found this interesting if maybe excessive. This entrance hall way celing was made with carved colored stone to "look" like wooden timber but ios actully rock!

The Sed Festival (Heb-Sed) was a crucial ancient Egyptian jubilee celebrated to renew a pharaoh's strength and divine right to rule, typically after 30 years of reign and every three years thereafter. Centered on ritual rejuvenation, the festival involved ceremonies, offerings, and a ritual race, frequently held in Memphis, the ancient capital.

Key Aspects of the Sed Festival in Memphis:
  • Purpose: The festival aimed to rejuvenate the pharaoh’s physical and divine power, ensuring his ability to rule, which was seen as vital for the country's well-being.
  • Memphis Connection: As the Old Kingdom capital and a key religious center, Memphis—specifically the area near the Temple of Ptah—was a traditional location for these, and other coronation, ceremonies.
  • Rituals: Known as the "Festival of the Tail," the king wore a specific animal tail, made offerings to gods (especially Ptah in Memphis), and performed a ritual race to demonstrate his fitness.
  • Significance: It often included a symbolic re-enactment of the unification of Egypt by Menes.
  • Evidence: The Step Pyramid complex of Djoser at Saqqara (near Memphis) contains a famous Heb-Sed court, with architectural elements designed to allow the king to celebrate the festival eternally

Neat architecture in this area and as always amazing scale to everything. The feet sticking out of the stonework in the last image are an interesting touch - they almost seem like a playful addition to the structures.
