The Sump

Not a very flattering name, but that's what the locals call this area in the middle of nowhere, Nevada. Once the seabed of the ancient Lake Esmeralda, this is a fascinating area geologically and quite photogenic. Seven vertical image panorama from last October.

Neat panorama. That's more than slightly off the beaten path to say the least. I like the formations and from what I can gather geologists and paleontologists like the place a lot too with interesting formations and fossils.

First time I have ever heard of this place although it's in between roads I have driven traveling in Nevada and California.

Photogenic it is for sure. I like the gradation of colors in this and the wide vista image captures the essence quite nicely.

Nevada has some awesome locations that are overshadowed by the hot spots of it's neighbors. I am going to do more exploring there in the near future.

That's a very cool looking area. I like how you captured this.
nice comp., the lines and patterns in the rock works really well with the light here.
Thanks guys! I was just there doing a recon of the area. A return visit with more time to spend is in order!
