The Watchman watches the Milky Way

Just a stellar image Jim, I've never blended two images before. But this gives me motivation to try it.
Hey Sonny! Thanks so much!

You really should do it. I would say the majority of us here do that so we can process the ground layer separate from the sky. Well, let me restate that, most of us take a single image, then process the ground separate from the sky and then blend those two back into 1 original shot. Especially at night, the ground layer and sky layer require 2 different white balances to look right. A lot of times the ground layer will need to be lit up more then the sky would be.

We have some blending tutorials in our Article section. If you have questions, please be sure to ask, any of us would be glad to help.

Thanks Bob, I am glad it turned out. I had done that too, but the light just looked so different I didn't like it. If I can, I might try it again this year but with some moon light to help light up the ground.
Hey Jim,
If you try it again let me know and I may join you.

Very beautiful scene Jim, love it.
It would be nice to have some details in the blacks, but it seems unrecoverable.

Cheers.

Jim A beautiful unique rendition of this iconic scene. I love it. One suggestion. Might be a challenge but can the shadows be brightened a bit without things looking silly?? My brain wants to see more detail in those dark areas, perhaps because I have only personally photographed this image in full daylight.
