The Winter Overflow

Rivers and creeks in the Pacific northwest typically run quite wide during the rainy winter months and often overrun their channels to flood seasonal wetlands. Salmon Creek near where I live regularly fills the surrounding floodplain each spring which will dry out again by fall. This is a shot of the wetlands from last week. The main channel of Salmon Creek is not visible in this scene.

This is a newer version of my IR processing where I get as much of the color balance as possible done in Lightroom with the RAW capture to avoid the nasty noise that Photoshop can inflict on the image with heavy handed use of the Hue/Saturation adjustment layers.

590nm with channel swap.

I like your nice solid blues for the sky and water. Most of mine are still getting a cyan cast, though that doesn't bother me so much really, other then I know the skies should look more like you have here.

I like your nice solid blues for the sky and water. Most of mine are still getting a cyan cast, though that doesn't bother me so much really, other then I know the skies should look more like you have here.

Thanks Jim. I still get more of a cyan when I do the channel swap in PS but I have managed to push the sky hue in Lightroom far enough that using Hue/Saturation in PS doesn't introduce color noise. I was getting some horrible artifacts in some images when I tried to do all of the corrections in PS adjustment layers. The trick is to think about color compliments as you make adjustments in Lightroom (or ACR) so the channel swap will yield the desired targets.

Nice color palette for this Alan. I have been playing with the workflow in ACR and have a couple of presets as a starting point and then tweak things before bringing into PS. Perhaps I haven't paid attention but HSL adjustments (which I have been using with IR processing) hasn't introduced noise or artifacts.

I also tend to use selective color to do some color tweaking.

Thanks Jameel. HSL edits on a RAW image aren't the issue - but using Hue/Saturation in an adjustment layer in PS can add some serious noise. Like you I am using HSL edits in Lightroom (same RAW engine as ACR in PS) as a part of my presets. Once the file is imported into PS the advantages of the headroom in RAW data is gone and PS adjustment layers are inherently destructive.
