These are not quite maximum distance from home but Fiji is a long way away (10,120 miles). We had booked to go there but a cat4 Typhoon devastated the area a couple of weeks before our arrival. I think that we were the first tourists back in. Most of the accommodation had no roofs and they gave us the choice of a hastily rethatched hut or a room in a large dorm that had survived almost intact. We chose the hut with a view of the stars, luckily for us it didn't rain during our stay, in this location, but we did see what Fiji rainfall looked like later. The very nice dark building is owned by a New Zealander who uses it as a holiday home.

On the Fijian islands the ferry doesn't dock it just stops and a boat comes out to transfer passengers. how they do this when the Pacific isn't quite so peaceful is beyond me. Most of the population are not rich enough to afford the ferry so travel to the mainland for medical help in these open boats.

Ken, great landscapes you’ve shared here. I love the last pastoral image with the receding mountains—my favorite! The two images of “Morning Light” and ”Evening Light” are also beautiful images as well. Thank you for sharing these Ken!

Dan, I love your aurora borealis images—very nice! The snowy Fairbanks landscape is my favorite, a beautiul scene of majestic mountains. And thank you for the history note appended to the Moldova image—another beautiful scene! Thank for sharing these images!
