Thursday's Task 2-13-25.jpg

Blandscape > Landscape
From capturing to editing, transforming your image from blandscape to landscape. My examples below:

A visit to Antelope Island, UT in October 2013 was the source of these two images. The first image is of Great Salt Lake with colorful rabbitbrush and rocks in the foreground. I deliberately chose to have the foreground rock to break the horizon.

In the second image, I was fortunate to capture this bison in this hillside composition, again with the colorful rabbitbrush. Oddly, we didn’t see a single antelope on Antelope Island.

Interesting thread task and some nice examples for us to go from. I can't say I have seen anyone post a shot of an antelope on Antelope Island.

I have some shots that I think fit the task for today with various reasons why for each.

First up is Bryce Canyon. While hiking on the Queen's Garden trail I liked how the Ponderosa pines were spread around and saw this scene with an old snag on the left and the somewhat isolated ponderosa on the right framing the distant cliffs of Bryce Point.

I had a bit of a ho hum morning one day at Ruby Beach with not a lot of color showing so I went for long exposures to see what might show up that wasn't readily visible to the naked eye. Happily the waves were a bit active and the spray in the long exposure yielded the lighting effect you see below. I didn't have to do much but I did emphasize the effect of the lighting a bit with my edits.

Thor's Well is a lava blowhole at Cape Perpetua on the Oregon coast. There are endless variations on how to shoot this feature in the basalt and I always want something different. In this case I timed the shot to have most of the basalt shelf covered in a breaking wave with the curl of the next wave as a backdrop to water falling down into the well.

Alan, thank you so much for sharing your creative thinking—and sharing these beautiful images! I especially love the Ruby Beach image! I like your Thor’s Well image with a different moment captured from the usually seen scene shared.
