I scratched my head a bit and came up with a slightly different twist on what you might have had in mind. The Buried part of the theme led me to shots I have taken through the years focused on archaeological sites in various places I have either worked or visited.
A scene from a rock shelter in the vicinity of Comb Wash in the Cedar Mesa area of southern Utah:
A Kiva at Lewis Lodge also in the Cedar Mesa area:
A scene from excavations at Cowboy Cave in Canyonlands National Park. The item being photographed is a jaw bone from a Late Pleistocene camelid roughly 10,000 years old.
The Temple of the Winged Lions in Petra Jordan likely dedicated to the goddess al-`Uzzá where I supervised excavations for several field seasons 50 years ago:
Every day while I was working in Petra I had a view of this scene across the main colonnaded street. Obviously some kind of large structure with big columns that have been toppled by the many serious earthquakes this region has experienced. I always wondered what was beneath the surface there.
This one isn't my image but someone has excavated the scene above and this is an image I found online of what they uncovered. This is now called the Great Temple of Petra - true Buried Treasure.
