Distant Landscapes can take two forms for my interpretation - one is simply distant from where I live:

I may drive for days from my home to a place special to me, only to find out it is the backyard of another photographer I met there. It's all relative to where you start your journey or where you live.

Alan, I like your two interpretations of distant––and beautiful images from both interpretations! I really like both of your distant landscapes of Little Petra and Athens. Both are very interesting images and would perhaps typify another distant interpretation––distant past. Both are well composed as well. I really enjoyed the telephoto interpretation too. The Mt. Hood and the Bisti are both favorites––great compositions. The Vancouver Sunset is one gorgeous image and perhaps my overall favorite. Very nice! The Clouds and Moon image is another favorite. I love the minimalist composition...perfect! Thanks for sharing each of these Alan!

Jameel, truly beautiful images you've shared today and thank you for doing so. I love the Patricia Lake composition with the beautiful colors and perfect composition. Very nice. I like the fall scene in Vermont as well, with a colorful refection included. Nice. The Grand Tetons is my favorite image of the group. Perfect composition with beautiful colors captured with the blue mountains and autumn forest with still waters below. Very nice. I like the captured autumn colors in the Provo landscape. I love all the autumn orange foliage with the diagonal group of yellow trees within it. Great eye and great capture! And the Black Canyon image certainly benefits from the gorgeous clouds in the sky above. Again nice capture. Thanks for sharing!

Kata Tjuṯa sits in the center of Australia, which is pretty far from California. This is the only rock I’ve ever encountered that I thought didn’t like me.

I’m not sure those rocks like me either—maybe they don’t like our accents! (I will say they do look interesting). Now back to the Task—great image and the rocks do “make” the image! Very nice.

Larry, beautiful landscapes images you have shared—and thank you for sharing each of them. I like the winding stream and trees in the foreground layers within the Red Mountain Pass image—and all the layers in this composition. Very nice. The Telluride composition works well with the road disappearing into this beautiful mountain landscape. I love this snowy Grand Canyon image with the dead tree aiding the composition—nice. Sunrise at Dead Horse Point is perhaps my favorite image. I love the light illuminating just the edges in this capture. Nice. I like the impressive Boreas Peak with the middle ground layer adding interest to this composition. Another favorite is the Kenosha Pass image, a perfect capture in time and composition. I love all the beautiful layers in this panorama. Very nice. Again Larry, thank you for sharing each of these great images.

Craig, very beautiful and appropriate images for this week’s Task. First, I love the “Utah Car Wash”—a perfect and humorous title too. The “Road to Nowhere” is a well composed landscape and perhaps truthful title. A beautiful scene captured. “Cabin in the Woods” appears to be gradually blending into its environment—a beautiful and thoughtful image. “Lighting of the Cathedrals” and “Lingering Light” both capture beautiful side light across each beautiful landscape. Very nice. “A Thousand Miles from Nowhere” image benefits from the included soft green trees included in this composition to contrast with the striated rock faces. Nice. “An American Landscape” title works with the bison in the midst of this western landscape. I love the two contrasting “layers.” A well seen scene. I love the composition of ”End of Day” with the “light” separating the near from the distant. “The Green Mile” is a good composition—l like the included foreground adding visual interest to the composition. Very nice. “Light’s Emergence of Moon and Sun” is a strong composition and I love the light striking the foreground butte and a portion of the farther one. Very nice. “Carefree Highway” is a memorable composition—and well named and a very well composed. Very nice.
