Tonto National Forest wildfire aftermath

The fire happened in August 2024. Today I went to take pictures of the aftermath. It's still smelly and I was surprised to see the new growths. The good news is the US GVNT is working to restore the area.

Neat you went up to shoot this. Nice to see how many of the older saguaros survived.

It will be interesting to see what grows back in its place given the current climate conditions. The damage might not look like it but that was a climax forest for a desert forest that got its start hundreds of years ago with weather conditions different from today. Replanting what was just burned might not be the best plan.

Great job capturing this Rick.

I was up in Washington State when Mt St Helens went off, one of the things that surprised me most was how within a year, there were already plants growing. That floored me as the Volcanic blast just sheered whole hillsides of all life, but just a year later, things were turning green again.
