Tufa Stars

I shot this a couple of years ago at Mono Lake as I was passing through on my way to look for some fall color. I shot the sunset at Navy Beach and saw the crowds over at South Tufa. I headed over there once it got dark, and found it amusing that I was arriving while everyone else was leaving.

I lined up the MW with this formation and took a few exposures: one for the stars, one focused on the tufa, and a couple more with some light painting on the tufa. Any thoughts are welcome.

Stunning! Too much light pollution, heavy forest and humidity makes this a rare view for all of us in the SE. Thanks for sharing.

A great MW shot Kyle. Nice alignment with the Tufa, and good job with the light painting. All in all a great image.

Hey Kyle,

Like most places once it starts to get darker, sometimes even just when the sun starts to get lower in the sky, the people start to head out. It can be a funny feeling to have been surrounded by 20 to 30 other people one minute, and 15 minutes later there is maybe only 2 of you left.

Nice work with this. I like the tufa's you chose to frame the shot with, those tall spires work great.

The subtle look of the tufa towers makes this a wonderful image, Kyle. It makes a beautiful transition from the towers to the sky. Great job.
