Twice a Day

The California Zephyr passes through twice a day here (actually 35 miles north). Eastbound leaves Green River at 7:59 am to Chicago, and Westbound arrives in Green River around 5:58 pm (give or take six hours), then continues on to California. So catching it for a photo is often somewhat problematic, although there is an Amtrak app that gives rough estimates...

I've taken the Zephyr twice to Chicago and back.. a nice 36 hour ride that begins in a nowhere deserted train depot from a Charles Bronson movie and ends right in the heart of downtown Chicago... And that's only half the route.

In this picture, which is somewhat misleading, it looks like the train is stopped at a depot. But in reality it's going around 70 - 80 mph right here. By the way, the historical depot on the right was suddenly torn down for no real reason a couple years ago.

No, but what is cool is sometimes people attach their private rail cars to the end of the train. Or, there's a certain canyon that you will pass through in Colorado where it's tradition that the river rafters all moon the train as it passes through, to the delight of the older passengers (and young children too! They just laugh!)
