Unintentional Mountain Climbing

My hike on Sunday along Wheeler Crest overlooking the Owens Valley was a poorly planned one. I didn't expect to climb an 11,400 foot peak, but it happened. At the top I called a friend and asked him to call search and rescue if I didn't get back in touch by a certain time.

But, I got some great views from this peak near Wheeler Crest and Mt. Tom, and I encountered only two other people the whole day. Bishop and U.S. 395 are perfectly visible. Notice how the granite has been eroded in the foreground.

That's a great area. Never been to the top of the ridge, but I stay in Swall Meadows often and am always photographing Mt. Tom and the Wheeler Ridge.

Glad. It turned out good Michael. It sounds like you need to invest in a Garmin InReach. I have never had to use mine in an emergency, but it's sure handy to communicate with friends or family to update them where I am at.

Nice view from up there!
