Utah by-way in the Autumn

Hi y'all

Has anybody travelled along the Alpine Loop, Byway 12, and the Flaming Gorge-Uintas Scenic Byways? What are the road conditions like in the late October ? Do I need to bring snowchains ? I am thinking of going there sometime, any tips would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I’ve driven Utah SR 12 a couple times in January a few years ago and encountered a snowstorm on Boulder Mountain above 6000 feet of elevation. I’m guessing snow is less likely in October, but it couldn’t hurt to bring your chains anyway.

That’s such a cool road with little traffic. You’ll have a blast.

You could encounter early season snow storms at altitude around late October but it would be quite rare for it to stick.
