Wapama Waterfall

This is Wapama Falls, one of the waterfalls at Hetch Hetchy reservoir in Yosemite National Park. The hiking trail along the lake runs along the base of this fall; if you look closely, you can see the bridge hikers use to continue farther along the lake. In years with heavy snowmelt, this fall has been known to destroy the bridge!

My parents and I did this hike last weekend on a day when temperatures rose to the upper 80s. With this waterfall sending water cascading onto the bridge, you can imagine how refreshing yet nerve-wracking it was to traverse it. You could also imagine how chaotic, loud, violent, and out of control this fall is from up close!

It was a thrill to make it across this bridge twice.
