Beside going out into our landscapes and the lava fields, sometimes I would take a break and try to shoot portraits or models just to learn. I enjoy this second to landscapes and sports. Please feel free to let me know what else can I do to better this image. I won't get offended at all. Open for suggestions. Aloha

Hey Tom,

People portraits would sure be a nice break from shooting lava!

I like the side lighting in this, my only thought was her head is cut off at the top. I think that makes it a bit distracting.

Very pretty model and great pose. My first thoughts were that a bit too much fill light was used. But his is not my venue so I could be wrong.

Yes, at times my body needs a break from the hikes out to the lava. Thank you for the comment, I will definitely take note of that for shooting portraits.

Thank you Ben. I am not a great portrait shooter as well and very much learning. However shooting this when it was getting darker, the contrast was getting stronger and there was a very strong line splitting the face with the existing light. I could have probably tamed it down a little though. Thanks

A good shot as is. Here are a couple of my suggestions...

Be cognizant of where the horizon may be "cutting" through your subject. In this case, it cuts right through her eye line. I would have liked to see it placed just above her head.

Also, you've got a beautiful location to go along with the girl. Expose it a little brighter and show it off.
