Waterfall Wednesday 1/17/2018

My, how time flies, it's Wednesday again. Here are a couple more from the Smoky Mountains.

This is the upper portion of Indian Flats Falls, about an 8 mile round trip hike (see if you can find the Hulk).

This is the lower portion of the falls.
The vegetation around these falls could pass as a doppelgänger for falls in the PNW area.

This image is a case of being in the right place at the right time. It was taken in May of 1998 during an El Nino year. I was driving with a buddy toward Monument Valley from the north and It started to pour so hard I had to pull off of the road. When it finally abated we decided to go into Monument Valley to see what we could find. There were flash floods everywhere. This is one of the ephemeral streams that had a waterfall.

Doug, this is very cool. Love that muddy waterfall.

I keep trying to catch great conditions at this waterfall (Columbine Falls). So far, I've failed. I've gone in summer to catch it's namesake, but there are very few columbines at the upper falls & usually not in a favorable position to catch Longs Peak & Meeker in the background. The lower falls is usually surrounded by bluebells, with the columbines hidden away in rocky nooks. And it's generally been very wind. "The Shot" remains elusive, at least for me.

Monika, I sure like this! I am going to have to try and get up to this and shoot it this summer.

Those clay roads must have been exciting to drive on after that kind of downpour!

Thanks, Alan, Douglas, Bart and Jim. Cathedral is always a fun one to shoot as it changes with the seasons and water conditions and has a lot of surrounding features to play with. But it is right next to a main road so contending with people stumbling around is often and issue.

That's a great shot Bart, I love the curving flow of blurred leaves leading in. Both of those are outstanding Dave, but the first really does it for me - excellent B&W treatment.

That's really nice work with an interesting cascade. The B&W works well in this.
