Another Wednesday another waterfall fest :)

A while back I posted a view of Merriman Falls along the South Shore Road near Lake Quinault. I have shot this little set of falls in just about every season of the year but fall is when they take on the most photogenic look to them. This is a side view of the falls.

I keep trying to catch great conditions at this waterfall (Columbine Falls). So far, I've failed. I've gone in summer to catch it's namesake, but there are very few columbines at the upper falls & usually not in a favorable position to catch Longs Peak & Meeker in the background. The lower falls is usually surrounded by bluebells, with the columbines hidden away in rocky nooks. And it's generally been very wind. "The Shot" remains elusive, at least for me.

A beautiful set of falls even if you haven't got the "perfect" capture yet.

This image is a case of being in the right place at the right time. It was taken in May of 1998 during an El Nino year. I was driving with a buddy toward Monument Valley from the north and It started to pour so hard I had to pull off of the road. When it finally abated we decided to go into Monument Valley to see what we could find. There were flash floods everywhere. This is one of the ephemeral streams that had a waterfall.

That's a seriously unusual image Doug - those falls are almost red.

Falls Creek Falls
Empties into the Umpqua River along highway 138, SW Oregon.
An easy short hike...Lost most of the detail with the long exposure, but the pool ended up nice.
I have driven past that area but didn't stop. I need to take this side trip next time.

Nonetheless, this is a very nice image, Monica. The epitome of good photography is to keep coming back until you get the perfect image. I once visualized an image of three trillium arranged in a specific way. I looked for it for many years and then one day, there it was. On the other hand there are still many that I have not found. What a halcyon world it would be if we could find all of the images we visualize with perfect light and composition.
