Waterfall Wednesday 3/5/2025

A couple of weeks ago I got some nice views of winter flows in some of the waterfalls in the Columbia River Gorge. This is the base of Multnomah Falls with a well above average amount of water spilling over the cliffs. I thought this looked pretty impressive but a series of storms a couple of days later made this scene look tame. I saw a shot of the falls on the evening weather report that showed almost double this amount of water coming down.

This is a single frame shot taken with a 166mm lens from out over the Columbia River.

Another unique and awesome view! Every ground based camera is getting soaked on days like this one, but you can capture it from above - I'm guessing you still get some spray, but perhaps you try to hover just above most of it? Great capture.

Thanks Michael - My drone was out over the Columbia River shooting with a telephoto lens. This is the same view using a 24mm lens so no spray anywhere near where I was hovering

Technically the US Forest Service no-fly zone is on the other side of the railroad tracks but there are also rules about flights over people and there are far too many visiting this place to make flying in closer a safe choice. This is where having a flying telephoto lens is worthwhile.

Very nice - I haven't been up to these falls since the fire. I imagine this particular view wouldn't be all that different since the moss and ferns are some of the first plants to grow back. Its the trees just outside of this frame that are mostly gone.

Nice light and exposure for these falls Jameel. I have never stopped to shoot these falls in spite of driving past this place on more than a few occasions. I need to pull off here one of these days. Looks nice.
