Waterfall Wednesday 6/7/2023

My falls for today are Palisade Falls in the Columbia River Gorge. Or at least what's left of them this year. The falls are shown on maps as of they are flowing year round but they look like they are likely dry by now from what I saw a couple of weeks ago. A 2 shot Panorama taken from Rooster Rock State Park using a 70mm lens from a Mavic 3 Pro.

Pile on with your own waterfalls :)

This is Horsetail Waterfall in the eastern Sierra, CA. Not only is there still a lot of snow in the mountains, there is still a massive amount of water coming down to lower elevations. The meadow in this image is not usually flooded from my limited experience here.

That's a lot of snow still up at that elevation - should keep the falls going for quite a while. I like the little reflection of the falls in the flooded meadow.

Another slice of a large waterfall. This is a mean merged image from Wailing Widow, NW Scotland. Mean merging shorter exposures allows me to get the effect of a longer exposure but allows me to wipe the spray from the front element between exposures which can be a problem when standing very close to a high waterfall even if, as here, the flow is very low. Low flows are some of the best when it comes to delicate cascades like these. I am highly familiar with the lens wiping routine near falls and carry an absorbent linen cloth just for that purpose. Really nice result with this scene.

Hopefully the last one from Ricketts Glen until fall
this is the first waterfall west of Watersmeet.
I never get tired of views from this park and this is a great example of why. Delicate falls and deep woods are a hard combination to beat. I am guessing this place can get crowded at times being so close to major population centers.

I have not seen it so crowded that it was annoying. It has maybe 6 miles of trail on the waterfall circle which gives plenty of distance for people to spread out. It is decidedly better in this regard than Watkins Glen.

From Knotts Berry. I used my iPhone and took the photo in Live mode and then switched it to Long Exposure. It's certainly not as smooth as a single long exposure. The little breaks showed up more as I adjusted the contrast higher. I think Apple could improve on that.

I tried playing with that feature a couple of years ago with similar results. The output file wasn't meant to be fiddled with a lot and I am almost always going to fiddle with it. It's still a waterfall and that works :)
