I considered Lines in the Sand as a thread title but Oregon's Painted Hills aren't really sand

I like the close up view of the textures of the hills. The diagonals takes the eye through the scene.

And an interesting title for the image.

I always take this as hard packed sand when I see these, it sure has that feel. Good one Alan.

I really like the lines in this one, Alan. The surface looks like the typical "popcorn" texture of shales that expand and contract during wetting and drying episodes respectively. The clays that comprise many of these beds are volcanic in origin just like the Chinle Formation.
