Eric is in Brazil getting many new bird images. Today I am posting duck images.

When I was a child in Illinois, we lived near the Chain of Lakes in the northern part of the state. This was a major stopping point for migrating ducks and American Coots. There would be up to fifty thousand waterfowl sitting on those lakes and when hunting season began, people from the Chicago area would come out in droves and row out into the lake to shoot them. Hunting season began at 12 noon and local sirens would blast away signifying the start of the season. Once those sirens blared the shooting began and the sky would turn black as the birds escaped from the lake.

After school I would go out to find dead and wounded birds in the sloughs around the lake. I was always amazed at the beauty of the ducks I found. This spawned a lifelong love of ducks, and as a result, I collected images from magazines painted by famous wildlife artists such as F. Lee Jacques, and Lynn Bogue Hunt. I still have books and magazines featuring these artists and many more today.

Here is a Field and Steam magazine cover of Goldeneye Ducks by Lynn Bogue Hunt.
