In keeping with the woodpecker theme here are some images.

I was intrigued by these channels I believe are from insect larvae crawling under the bark on the spruce branch. They reminded me of Maori tattoos I have seen.
The were revealed after a Black-backed Woodpecker stripped the bark away.

I'll bet most people are unaware of the Māori people. In two weeks, I'll post some birds named by the Māori. Takahe & pūkeko. I need the Black-backed. Interesting photos, Trent. Exceptional photography. Thanks for both

From a visit to Mirror Lake in Rooster Rock State Park last week. I was shooting fall leaves but decided to see what might be floating around on the lake and spotted this collection of Mallards and Tundra Swans.

My kind of habitat, Regrettably my eyesight even with glasses is sharp enough to ID these ducks. Wonderful photo, Alan.
