Winged Wednesday 7/15/2020

I'll start off today's Winged Wednesday with some photos on Snow and Ross's geese from Basque Del Apache National Wildlife Center, San Antonio. New Mexico. While there is always something interesting to see at the Basque, the greatest numbers of birds will be seen from November to late January. Sandhill Cranes, Snow Geese, Ross's geese and wintering ducks are the primary winter attractions.

At first light Snow Geese and Ross's geese gather in great numbers before dispersing to the farm fields.

Blast-off occurs when all the geese take off at the same time.

The two larger geese are Snow Geese and the smaller goose is a Ross's Goose

In January, fires are started to burn off the dead grasses in the Basque. The blue goose is a color morph of the Snow Goose.

Sensational hummingbird photos, Jim. Hummingbird migration has started in my yard. I have 12 feeders up and will eventually have 1000 hummers/day til mid September
