Winter Milky Way at Black Canyon

It was cold, very cold with snow all around in the Black Canyon of the Gunnison as I set up to capture the night sky. Clouds were forecast to roll in about 3am, which was the time the Milky Way was set to rise about the same time. Which would win? The Clouds or the Milky Way? Or would it be a tie? Please watch and decide for yourself.

Jim, the clouds beat the MW, but then parted enough to see more than enough of it. The clouds add a dynamic interest. Very nice sunrise to go with it.

The clouds left you with a very nice sunrise. The airplane trails leave little doubt which direction Denver is from your viewpoint :)

Thanks so much Ben! It was nice that the Milky Way squeezed in a little bit of an appearance.

Thanks Alan. Black Canyon is so far away from Denver, maybe 300 miles? So Denver never pops into my mind, but I guess that would be the only real explanation? Although there are quite a few cities to the East, including Colorado Springs and Pueblo that both have very large airports. Gunnison is only 50 miles or so to the East, and it has an airport, but I wouldn't think it would have very much traffic coming from it.
