I think they got hit by the same atmospheric river that hit us on Friday - we have a flood watch out for our local rivers (including the Columbia) until Wednesday.

I think it had 3 days of rain, then the high temperature accelerated the snow melt, from some of the aerial video footage, the damage to the northern part of Yellowstone Park is extensive, and roads were washed out.

Some of the damage went far beyond just washing out the road - it washed out whole hillsides where the road bed used to be and in more than a few places.

Yeah, I saw that too Alan. The whole road bank was washed out, so not sure how they would rebuild that. It wasn't just like some surface washing out, the whole supporting hillside below the road was eroded away.

I saw that they are looking to partially open part of Yellowstone this week I think? But it sounds like just a very small part of it.

According to the visuals in the helicopter footage that happened in several places along the road from Gardiner down to Mammoth Hot Springs. They are going to have to reengineer a whole new road bed for that entrance. Apparently the original road bed dates back to stagecoach days and the park is going to reconsider where and how they will reconstruct it. It would really suck to be a small merchant in Gardiner dependent on tourist traffic at this point. The park isn't sure they can rebuild it by next summer so that road may be down for a few years since they can only work on it 3 months of the year.
