First landscape shots with a Z7

Bought a Z7 on a sale in place of buying a D850 thinking that I would use it with D810. The first sunrise I played with:

Then I remembered I could think about composition even if it was with a new camera:

Like the Z7 enough to trade off my old gear and get a 14-30S that is really sweet.

Also bought a Z50 two lens kit as backup, but I forgot to tell the camera that and it is sneaking into my hands way more than I expected. Really like both cameras right now. The FTZ will gather dust.

The second and third shots are really nice ones. Great sky colors in both. Is the last one still sunrise or a sunset shot?

It sure looks like the Z7 is a lot of fun. How are you liking the ergonomics of a mirrorless camera compared to the DSLR?

definitely the first shot with a new camera is a fun shot and one to remember. I do like #2 and 3 a lot with #3 being my favorite. Though I could see #3 being just a little brighter perhaps? Just a tad bit.

Beautiful images.

Great color in those images!

I've had the set of D850 and Z7 for over a year. At first I really had a hard time warming up to the Z7, but I'm coming to the realization that it's a better landscape camera, while I keep my long telephotos on the D850.

Now the pain is getting new lenses as I'm not that keen on having to use the FTZ adapter, although I think it's a good thing.

Jim-the Z7 felt completely natural from the first minute. The big advantage for me was the ability to set up the view finder and the back screen to mimic my DSLR's. The optical view finder reflecting the exposure will have very dark shadows when the sun is in the frame. I have learned to use manual exposure and frame in a brighter exposure and then adjust down before exposing.

The Z50 took a little longer to get comfortable. Initially back button focus took time to find. A second hitch was the shutter locking out in some high contrast situations. Just moving the focus spot to include some highlight fixes it.

You are right about the third picture looking a little dark. It also appears darker than it does in Lightroom on my iPad. Probably a result of the Flickr uploading and resizing. Thanks for the comment.

That’s interesting. I had gotten the Sony A6400 a year ago to use for trail running and street photography and just a general use camera I can keep in my Jeep. The one thing I got used to was the Electronic View Finder. So when I do use my D850 I have to make sure I don’t get fooled by the Optical View Finder that my exposure is correct instead of looking down at the histogram. The EVF is addictive I think.
