My ability to photograph bids is directly related to my friendship with Eric. So this time I am going to post images from a trip to the Sandia Crest in the mountains to the east of Albuquerque, NM. Thanks for all of the help you have given me, Eric.

I was a birder for 30 plus years before I started taking photos of the, Fortunately now, the cameras and lens are handholdable and lighter and the walk around lenses are so much cheaper. As for your dilemma, follow your heart

My contribution for today are some shots of a male Anna's hummingbird demonstrating that they are a far cry from delicate little birds. We got a pretty good shot of winter over this last weekend that started out with somewhere between 12-14" of snow followed up by freezing rain. I posted some images of a couple of these hummers guarding 2 of our 4 feeders this weekend and this is one guarding another of them near our front deck. The first image is about an hour after the freezing rain started:

This next one was taken the next morning after the freezing rain had stopped. I am getting a lot of eye contact in both of these images because I am standing right next to the feeder he is keeping tabs on. He will chase off any other hummers who try to use "his" feeder.

impressive work, Doug I was expecting bluebird. Maybe Ill see them next week,. Love the colors. details, cropping and processing on all the photos.

Thank you, I hope this year is like it was 2 years ago, one of the best years. It's amazing how much different the chestnut sided is from spring and fall. you would never think they are the same bird.

Thanks Eric, the last three months we've had some nice birds that are western birds that showed up in our area. We had the Grooved billed Ani, Ash throated flycatcher, Cinnamon Teal and western tanager. The Cinnamon teal was the first ever sighting in our county. do you ever get any eastern birds that show up occasionally.

I agree with Eric, follow your heart... As a long time birder, you might find it satisfying and fulfilling to have photos to look at of some of the birds you come across instead of just fading memories. Don't concern yourself so much with having perfect images and just shoot for your own pleasure...
