The Milky Way at Molas Pass

I finally was able to get this processed and compiled. As most of you know I am pretty buried with grandkids here in Colorado, so my free time is not very free, and there is always several kids where every I go. So while I enjoy them greatly, it makes long projects like this hard to do.

This is from Molas Pass, which is just a few miles south of Silverton on the Million Dollar Highway. It's one of my favorite areas, and I have been there multiple times now. I did have a moon up, if you look close you can watch the moon set as the it's light recedes across the ground. There is some occasional headlights shining on the trees, but there isn't anything I can do about that.

Nikon D810 & 14mm Sigma f1.8

25 secs
f2.2
ISO 2000 (Due to the brightness of the moon)

Processed and compiled in Photoshop, finished assembly in Movavi

All comments are welcome,

Jim

Nice one Jim, I only got the HD version so it had a few artifacts. I will check back later and see if the 4K is finished processing.

Hey Ben, it was fully uploaded last night. Where are these artifacts you are seeing? I am not seeing them on a 60” RV.

Nice one, Jim. What is causing the flashes of light? Car lights?
Thanks Doug. Yep lights from from vehicles driving down the Million Dollar Highway. Try as I might, it seems like unless I want to backpack 10 miles into the wilderness I can’t avoid vehicle lights. :(

I am still only seeing 1080P as the highest level. I have a wide gamut monitor and I am seeing green and red sort of flickering back and forth in the sky. I need to find an srgb monitor to view it on.

Very pleasant view of the MW from up there. Didn't those rude people driving by know that you had the pass reserved for your TL session? 😁

That's because it's 1080p Ben. :)

Just watch it on your tv, it's nicer when it's bigger anyway. :)

On the FocalWorld YouTube Channel, there is a 4k version of it Ben that I uploaded this morning for you. Can you play it and see if it looks any different to you?

Hey, Jim, I don't watch much TV and do most YouTube stuff on my puter. But to watch it on a TV I need some search criteria. I tried Jim Fox and Focal world and got other people or sites.

Ben, it should come up under FocalWorld as your search. I haven’t tried my name, but the channel is FocalWorld so that should work.

There are some reds and greens moving as the Airglow moves in the sky.

Jim, I will try again on the TV, I managed to get in from my computer. The airglow explains it.
