The Southern Pinwheel Galaxy NGC 300

Was probably not the brightest idea shooting a galaxy in RGB in a 70% bright moon but here it is.
NGC 300 The Southern Pinwheel Galaxy
Shot in broadband LRGB and 3min subs @-10C spread across two nights.

Equipment used:
Skywatcher 10" Quattro
Skywatcher NEQ6 Pro Hypertuned
Skywatcher f4 Aplanatic Coma Corrector
ZWO ASI2600MM Pro
ZWO OAG
ZWO 36mm 7nm LRGB unmounted filters
Bortle 5
Data acquisition software: NINA Astronomy Software
Processing software: PixInsight and Photoshop CC

The pinwheel shape is quite distinct in this image and I like how the stars in the scene are rendered. I am not an astro shooter so forgive my ignorant question but how did the 70% moon impact the colors I see in this resulting image?

Thanks Alan. Shooting in LRGB during a bright moon is not usually recommended as it tends to wash out colours and introduces unwanted background gradients.

Hey Carlos! This Southern Pinwheel is so nice! It’s great that both hemispheres get a Pinwheel!

A noob question from me to piggyback onto Alan’s. Shooting LRGB on monochrome camera, do you end up with a result similar to have used a color Astro cam?

Hi Jim, shooting through a color astro cam would give you realistic RGB colors, shooting through a mono will give you "false colors" as you will eventually have to map the mono image to an R, G or B channel to produce the desired results.

Looks like you successfully stole some deep space photons from under the moon's nose :) Really nice love the framing. Nice to see these galaxies with a good mix of detail but still with enough of their surroundings to put them in context.
