Summer in Chablais, 2018

I recently revisited (and reprocessed) photos from this hike we did in the Alps back in July 2018. Winter is starting to feel long here on the east coast so I'm reminiscing about green grass and summer days. I enjoyed all my hikes in that area where we lived but the Chablais region on the French/Swiss border is something special. I guess it's the grass-covered alpine slopes that are just so idyllic for me. It was a relatively easy 2 hour hike in and then we picnicked and took our time smelling the flowers. Wish I could be back there now :)

Looks nice. Makes me want to take a walk there.

How were winters at that altitude compared to where you are now?

I can see why you long to be back there really inviting scenes
Thanks Ben! Definitely could use some sunshine and above-freezing temperatures right about now.

Thanks Alan. From my point of reference, having grown up on the east coast of the US, it stayed pretty mild in the valley where we lived at about 3000 ft elevation. It rarely went more than a couple degrees below freezing. Having taller mountains around seemed to protect the valleys from extreme temperatures. Of course as soon as you start gaining altitude it gets colder. This hike was at about 6000 ft and you can see little patches of snow still leftover from the previous winter (in July). And it was clear talking to people that the Alps have warmed up a ton in the last few decades. The recession of the glaciers being the most significant visible change.

Beautiful! I'd sure like to be there and see it one day.
I highly recommend a visit to this area near the borders of France Italy/Switzerland, on either side of the Alps, since it is quite lush. Other parts of the Alps are more arid and less green but also beautiful.

Looks nice and lush. Certainly a place to explore.
Thanks Jameel, I really enjoyed all the hikes we did in this region. Each valley has something different to offer.

These are so cool Amy! I am glad you are revisiting them, as they are a joy to see. An area I will probably never get to, but would love to. My favorite is #3 as it's cool taking it all in on that view.
