Running out of Titles :)

I am beginning to run out of titles for my Milky Way photos since I have been shooting so many. I hate to reuse a title, so that's my issue here.

Anyway, I was doing Deep Space Astro on this night out in Joshua Tree. I had 2 cameras up and shooting timelapses, the D850 and D810. I kept the Sony A6400 and the Samyang 12mm f2.0 free to then run around in the desert and pick out compositions with the Milky Way after it rose. While I love doing the Timelapses of them, I was missing the flexibility of being able to run around and compose multiple shots, because once my timelapse cameras are put in place, they aren't moving. So with the addition of another 14mm f2.8 lens, I could let my timelapses all be done with the Nikon Cameras, and then the Sony A6400 which has the 12mm Samyang permanently attached is almost a fire and forget camera. The focus is dialed in and never moves, and everything from 8 to 10 feet away and to infinity is in focus on it at f2.0. So it makes for a great run around with at night camera. As those of you who have photographed at night, one of the worst horrors is to have gotten what you thought were great night time photos only to discover they are out of focus and not sharp. With this setup, that never happens. So I can focus my attention on the composition, instead of focusing on the focus. :)

Sony A6400
Samyang 12mm f2.0
ISO 3200
25 seconds
f2.0

Jim, an Incredibly beautiful image. Sorry no help with titles—I’m sure you’ve already used “reaching for the stars.”

Jim, one of my main objections to night shots, is the lack of clean sharp detail in the foreground. A full or nearly full moon solves this but precludes a good MW. You have the level of detail and clarity I want in this one, great image.

Thanks Ben! I really appreciate those comments. This was only a few days after the new moon, so it was still just a sliver in the sky and it had set well before this. I am just really happy with my gear.

Maybe next time we get together, I can let you borrow the Sony for the night to try out.

I love the details both on the ground as well as the skies.

Sleep much? :)
I appreciate that Alan! Glad you like it!

Sleep? I think that word had been removed from my dictionary. :)

When I am on my Milky Way Chasing I typically get maybe 2 hours of sleep in the back of my jeep in the morning after sunrise, and in those areas it typically gets too hot about 10am and you can’t really sleep even if you wanted.
