Waterfall Wednesday 5/18/2022

I thought it might be fun to toss out a pair of images showing roughly the same scene along Sweet Creek showing what it looks like just before the rainy season and then what it looks like after a rather wet winter. This is near Annice Falls shot looking upstream.

First up is from a visit in mid October last fall:

If you look closely you can see where the creek bed is kind of scoured out from flows like what I saw a couple of weeks ago. This kind of water flow dislodges trees than have fallen into the creek bed and I could hear large rocks rolling along the bottom while I was taking this shot:

Beautiful falls - I like all the little cascades along the water's path.

We have had a couple of days rain so I decided to check out our local river. Unfortunately the water level was far too high to get into the positions that I like but I had brought a long lens and decided to zoom in onto individual parts of the river. The water is clear but brown with tannins from the plentiful oak and beech trees as well as the peat moorland where the river rises. I have used a much cooler colour temperature and desaturated the oranges and yellows to reduce the warmer tones. Ken

Nice you brought along a long lens - these are some neat results and I especially like the zoomed in shots. The water color is fascinating to me since we have mostly blue hues in the waterfalls in the Pacific NW occasionally interrupted by mud during heavy runoff.

Ken, I like your set, that brown is somewhat different than mud in color, and lends a nice hew to the water.

I visited my usual spring haunts up in American Fork. This particular image requires some bank scrambling that had me scooting down the bank on my rear side and about to slide into the stream. Exiting was just as perilous and I have decided I am getting too old for this location.

This has been a really nice view of this river and its drop-offs but not worth risking your life for. I have enjoyed the views through the seasons at this location. Hope you find another place to shoot from with easier/safer access.

Thanks, Alan, knowing this was my last visit, I took some time getting various compositions which I will show in the future. I do have a few places I can continue to visit.

Interesting sideshow. That area looks like there are a ton of waterfalls nearby. Are the Boulder River waterfalls worthwhile?

There are a couple other falls in that area - one is interestingly called Meditation Falls. I have not visited them all but plan to in a couple of weeks or so.

That's an amazing amount of water coming down - must have been pretty loud. Impressive.
