Doug, a great series of a prominent tree—I love your striking first image and the peaceful third lone tree image. The Jeffrey Pine image is perhaps my favorite—very beautiful!

So cool with that Jeffrey Pine you captured Doug. I had some shots from it when it was breathing it's last when I shot it as a teenager. Though the images are only a memory now as my mom was an obsessive cleaner and most of my things were thrown away while I was away in the Army.

I am so familiar with that situation. While I was away in college, my mom threw out my entire collection of 1953 Topps baseball cards which are now worth thousands of dollars. I still get sick when I think about it.

I will start with 1 lone tree as I am busy trying to find my photo of the Starship Enterprise for Doug's Meteorology Monday thread.

This is from Joshua Tree. This is the lone Juniper that stands next to the Sentinel Rock that is pretty famous in the Jumbo Rocks Campground in Joshua Tree NP. As cool as the Icon angle is on this, I have taken the time to shoot it from every angle. The Iconic angle has the tree angling towards the rock spire. But from this angle it appears to be standing straight up. It's amazing how things can change sometimes by just changing our angle.

As a note, this was taken during one of the rare snow storms in Joshua Tree. I had been watching the weather and they said it should snow, so I ran out to Joshua Tree before the storm was to hit so that I could be there. It snowed during the night, and I essentially had the whole park to myself. Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.

As I was uploading, I thought I might as well show it from the different angles. I had to be very careful moving around so that I didn't get my footprints in the snow.

Craig, beautiful examples for this task—repetitive or not—great to see these images again! It is difficult to choose a favorite but the “Corkscrew” and “The Lonely Guy” are my choices—at the moment! (Again, love your titles).
