First Winter Storm

From a few weeks ago as I was driving on the I-70 from Colorado to California. This is at that Dillon Overlook. I don't recall the name of this peak, perhaps @larryj remembers it. I will have to look it up on a map later.

Nikon Z6III
Tamron 50-400mm

I thought B&W was fitting for this.

All comments are welcome,

For some reason I was expecting much deeper stuff. It won't take long for that to happen this time of year however. Nice time to be heading back down to SoCal.

The first snows weren't that much, but it was snow. Now my daughter sent me a news story that today the I-70 was closed down in both directions with 20 cars involved in a crash. When winter hits fully, it's why I will totally avoid it, by either taking the 40 to the the 25, or take the 15 to the 80. Both routes are an hour or so longer, but I think they are faster if you count how often you can get stuck on the 70 from snow.

Its not so much your traction in the snow as all the other vehicles without it that gets you stuck

LOL, now that's the truth!.

A few years back I was driving up in that area of the Rockies on the I-70 at night. It had snowed, the road was icy. There was very cars driving on the road and everyone was driving maybe 20mph on the freeway. In front of my maybe 100 feet in front of me, a car towing a trailer started going back and forth as the trailer was sliding all over the place. I took my foot off the gas and slowed down even more. Luckily I didn't hit it. But that was the event where I decided I just wasn't going to drive the 70 in the winter time anymore. Because I could control what I was doing, but it was the others around me that I couldn't control.

So now, no matter what time of year it is, if I am thinking on taking the 70 to head from Colorado to California, I check the weather reports, I look at the freeway cams they have, I look at the traffic reports long and hard before I decide I will try the 70. And many times I like, and I decide the 80 is a better option or the 25 down to the 40.

This is one of the reasons why I don't live in Utah anymore. I spent 30 years driving in ice and snow every winter and like being able to choose when I want to go play in it but not live with it every day. Driving up here when it snows is pretty dicey because very few people have a clue how to do it safely.

Nice view and the B&W processing suits the scene. I think it needs to be a bit brighter though with the snow nearing about 220.
