Inlet of Middle Blue Lake

The storm was rushing by me, and I had just a few more minutes to shoot before I was engulfed in this storm and needing to make a hasty retreat among the rain, hail and lightning. This is the inlet area for Middle Blue Lakes in the San Juan Mountains in Colorado. The water cascades down out of Upper Blue Lakes and into this middle lake. There are lot's of cool wildflowers in this area, and next year I will try to give a little more time to this area as there is a lot to see and shoot in this small pocket in this middle basin.

I really like this one Jim. That piece of stream together with the way the lake bends to the right and then points at the mountain forms an S curve

Nice image! This is not what I expected this lake to look like. It appears much longer than I would have thought, but this is likely with a sub 20mm lens. Mt Sneffels is then back behind your right shoulder? And where did you retreat to during the storm, it's wide open up there! Lightning + tripods, bad!

The lake is a long oval lake. The outlet of it is also is really cool as the water cascades quickly among wildflowers. On this side where I am the Columbine are very profuse.

In order to escape the hail and lightning there is no trail down to where I was, so I had to make my way back along the left side of the lake and then run up the side of the ridge to connect with the trail which then is another 5 minutes to get down among some trees.

This lake is not far from Lower Blue Lake, but the first half mile of the trail goes up rather steep and is close to rivaling the initial first part of the trail to Lower Blue Lakes. It is pretty photogenic of a trail though, so there will be lots of photo breaks as you work your way up.

Contrasts between the barren cliffs and treeless mountains and the green valley with the wildflowers really make this one, and then the perfectly placed stream leading the viewer into the image, well that's just showing off!

Seriously though, a very nice shot - my eyes love roving around back and forth throughout all the wonderful elements.
