Solitary Sojourner

While hunting Dogwood Blooms around Yosemite Valley 2 months ago, I came across this Solitary Sojourner. It's solitary life really spoke to me.

This is shot at f5.6 to isolate the bloom from the ground. I shot it at f13, f8, f5.6 and f4. And I ended up with f5.6 when I could review back here at home as the most pleasant limited DoF. And again, according to most reports I had read people were basically declaring Dogwood Bloom photo season over as it was well past peak by at least 2 or 3 weeks. But... I had gone anyway hoping that the Dogwoods would still have some life left and speak to me. I am really happy with what I got and the time I got to spend wandering around the valley looking for the Dogwoods.

All comments are welcome,

Jim

Nice to still be able to find one that lost track of it's appointed bloom window. At least by being late to the show it get's rock star level attention instead of just being part of the crowd :D

Ha ha, thanks Alan! And it was kind of like finding a prize at the bottom of a cereal box. :)

sounds like it's a late bloomer. i can't believe how much texture and detail is in the petals and leaves. the soft light, shallow dof and bright colors are a great combination in this photo.

Thanks so much Pepper! Perhaps because it’s a late bloomer it gave it more character? I am really glad I found this one and now it turned out.
