The Sentinel and the Stars

Stayed for the stars on Saturday after the great sunset. When I first got there I think there were about 20 people., maybe more. And if you've been to this spot you know about the ankle breaker loose rocks on the steep hill you need to setup on. A few people left after sunset but it was still quite crowded. Everyone left as soon as the first little cloud rolled by. I stayed and it paid off. Had the whole place to myself which allowed me to get several different compositions. Just finished editing this one last night. Feedback always welcome.

Patience pays off and you just provided a good example for that. I'd be delighted to have taken this one. Job well done.

Great job Brandon, this really looks sweet. It does pay to hang around!

One thing I try to do with that tree is hide the one further up the hill behind the Sentinel. But to get the Milky lined up with the Sentinel as you have it, that may not have been possible. No matter though as your shot here is just really sweet.

Thanks Jim. I agree - I would prefer just the one tree as well but with the way the Milky Way was lining up this worked better. I did take a few in portrait so I might be able to crop or clone out the other tree, we’ll see. Probably just need to visit again st s different time of year when the MW is in a different position.

Crazy cool, I love these where the sky is not moving, but still. Love the ambient light on the tree also, did you light paint at all or is that all ambient?

Used a small LED to provide a little low level lighting. Also a little dodge and burn in photoshop....
