Mandrill Portrait

I'm still having fun with my new Tamron 100-400. Yesterday I went with a group of photographers to the LA Zoo. I had a blast and captured some pleasing (for me) close ups I couldn't otherwise acheive without a longer lens. This Mandrill is quite colorful. I shot this through a cyclone fence but with the right lighting, depth of field blur, and a little bit of luck you might think I shot this on safari. :)

Wow - very nice and highly detailed portrait of this critter. The dark backdrop really helps the colors pop.

Thanks Alan. I've gotten some really sharp images with this lens when I get everything right. Pretty impressive for the money. And yeah, the colors on that guy are amazing.

Wow!!! Totally great work John! That color is awesome, and if you hadn’t said anything I would never have thought you got this at the LA Zoo.

Be sure to invite your friends to FocalWorld. :)

Thanks Kyle. It was a combination of things working out for me. He came out of the shadows of the back of the enclosure towards me and into the sunlight until he turned right while still being sunlit. I was shooting once he came into the light while also trying to shoot between the fencing. I have some other somewhat similar images but this one seemed to be the sharpest and my favorite.
