i shot this church on my second day in iceland. the sky wasn't the best it could have been and i had to shoot in the opposite direction (out to sea) to get something close to the clouds i wanted. luckily this is within a few hours of the airport so i made time to stop by again at the end of the trip. the sky cooperated this time.

Curious color choices for this edifice - it gives it almost a goth like mood to the scene and semi monochromatic. Glad you went back to capture it.

Super cool Pepper! Love the way the clouds just seem to radiate out from the church. Great thinking on your part.

the original historic church was demolished years ago. a lot of buildings were painted with pitch to keep the weather out. pretty much the same stuff they used on boats. so when this church was rebuilt in the 80s or 90s it was painted black. almost all of the new churches are white with red roofs, but i saw a few older buildings (churches and otherwise) that were also black.

The clouds frame this nicely.
thanks ben

thanks jim. that's what i wanted the clouds to do but they just wouldn't listen that first day. honestly, i could spend a week just shooting that tiny peninsula.
