The colorful hills in the middle of nowhere

A seven image panorama from the Silver Peak Range in Nevada. I found this place after perusing google maps before my last trip and just cruised by to reconnoiter on my way back home. I will for sure be going back and plan to stay longer next time, as there is much to explore there.

    Escalante hoodoo

Just a solitary hoodoo doing its thing on a sunny day in Utah. A 665nm conversion with channels swapped.

    Devil's Garden after dark

During the new moon in October. We had perfectly clear skies and not too cold either! It was a lot of fun stumbling around these beautiful rocks at night. Nikon Z 20mm s lens, single exposure at 15 seconds.

    King tides in Bandon

My favorite hotel on the west coast has a 15% discount for the dates of the king tides each winter. I took advantage of that over the weekend - we got a bit of color, a bit of cloudy, and also some steady rain towards the end, but it worked out well. Arrived Friday night to partly cloudy and...

    The beggar wore purple shoes

I was visiting the coast this weekend for the first of three king tides this winter. I booked a room with a great balcony view of the sea stacks in Bandon. While making good use of the balcony's view, this guy landed no more than three feet from my tripod and proceeded to stare at me. Every time...

    Rocky sunrise

Got some nice light on my latest sunrise at the Alabama Hills. The high peaks lit up briefly, then the lower ones, then everywhere around me. It was great while it lasted.

    Sandy, windy, and yellow.

Sand tufa at Navy Beach on Mono Lake. So windy I had to keep a hand on my tripod to keep it from flying away!

    Projectile headed towards Earth

Let's hope it lands safely. A mirror image with an 850nm converted Nikon.

Some color on Boulder Mountain, Utah

From 3 weeks ago, an overlook of the Escalante Canyons and some fallen aspen leaves just past peak at around 10,000 ft. elevation. The second image with a 40 year old Nikon 16mm fisheye.

    A slice of Sedona

I was only there for one night 10 years ago, and it's a place I want to see again when I can spend more time. A six image panorama made with a 665nm converted Nikon.

    Watching Whitney

Mt. Whitney in California holds a special place in my heart. I have happy memories of a couple of backpacking trips from my younger days, including a trip to the summit on a perfect weather day. But for the last several years, my attempts to get the iconic sunrise photo of the east face have all...

    Along the Extraterrestrial Highway

Nevada HWY 375 is called the Extraterrestrial Highway for it's passage alongside the notorious "Area 51", the common name of a highly classified US Air Force facility within the Nevada Test and Training Range. It is a very remote area, the last I time I drove it, I counted a total of 6 cars...

    Almost twins

These two aspen are forever in a group by themselves. Very much alike, one has just a bit more girth and fewer leaves - not unlike many siblings. I was amazed by the variety of colors in the surrounding grasses. Color was not altered in this image, just a bit of contrast added due to the flat light.

    Fall color in Nevada

I had read online somewhere that Hwy 225 in Northern Nevada was the most scenic drive in the state. While I'm not so sure it is the most scenic (Valley of Fire SP comes to mind) it is a very enjoyable drive through low mountain scenery with many opportunities for outdoor recreation along it's...

    Earth meets sky

This the Goosenecks State Park in Utah. The clouds were just perfect for mid-day, but the wind was oppressive. I think the photo would have more impact if it were shot just a little bit closer to the rim, but I was not going to risk losing my gear to the gusty winds. Made with an 850nm converted...

    The Devil's Garden

One of my favorite places in Grand Staircase Escalate National Monument. Beautifully sculpted rocks and great high desert views. These were made with a 665nm converted Nikon. They

    Nocturnal Goblins

One of my favorite places to visit over the years, it has sadly become so popular that you now need to reserve a campsite months in advance. These photos were made years ago, when I had the whole valley to myself at night.
