My wife and I are just finishing up a month long trip in our new truck camper. We started in Lake Stevens WA, stopped in Bend OR for a bit of X-skiing, then headed down to Death Valley with a couple days in The Alabama Hills. More adventures in AZ and UT followed.
I haven't had time to process...
This is the California Nebula, if you rotate it in your mind, you can see how they came up with this name.
I am including 2 more images for those who just might be a little curious. The first is the Stacked image coming out of the DeepSkyStacker program that is a Freeware program for Astro...
Last week after 2 long nights of shooting Deep Space Astro in Joshua Tree National Park, I had planned to leave mid morning to head home after a bit of scouting around out in the desert. By the time I was done running around including trail running up 1500 feet up Ryan Mountain, I noticed that...
From a few weeks or more back up along the coast in California by San Simeon. I found this cool spot that I liked. Usually I am shooting so slow for the water, that birds flying turn into smears. So it was nice for once to have been shooting faster as the birds approached. I think they add a lot...
Well, don't count too close.
This was from a month or so ago at San Simeon on the California Coast, right below Big Sur country. The waves were coming in really nicely and hitting these rocks.

Well, not totally pea soup, but it was foggy and misty at Pismo Beach last Christmas. I love driving up there to eat the clam chowder from the Splash Café, and the scenery up there also isn't half bad. :)
This was about a mile down the cliff side away from the pier, I found it interesting just...
Joshua Tree's have very long life spans, and it's always interesting to see them shepherding over the rest of the desert. This is from last week and how I spent my morning hours after having spent the previous night doing Deep Space Astro.

After a long night of Deep Space photography, I took a quick 45min nap to get up to shoot the last of the stars with my 14mm which then turned to sunrise. :) I haven't processed my 14mm star shots yet, because I really liked the way the sunrise turned out. Not too long before sunrise there...
I went to Venice Beach in California last Sunday, mainly to see a few unusual people and do some Street Photography. But fortunately for me, the partly cloudy forecast held and I got some really sweet sunset photography in too. I don't get to Venice Beach very often as it's an hour drive or more...
From up at the Seal Sanctuary by San Simeon California. There were several areas where the Elephant Seals were all snuggling together. I shot this purposely tight with the idea of an abstract type of shot.

From last week in Pismo Beach, California. It had been raining and stormy, with the sun making a last ditch effort to peek in. This is the Pismo Beach coastline, there are hotels hugging most of the coastline as you can see to the right.

This is from one of the easiest sea caves to get to in the Pismo Beach area I think. Watching the tide is key in that area. I shot this last Saturday when I was up in Pismo.

Last Sunday as I was shooting the Elephant Seals it was about 45 mins before sunset and there was some cool clouds and a potential for a good sunset. I knew that the Elephant Seals would be too dark along the sand to make a good foreground subject and there wasn't a lot of cool rocks at the...

This is up in Pismo this last weekend and was a stormy rainy afternoon.
I tried to put into use some idea's from @Aaron Macomber in his thead...
I was up the coast in California yesterday and stopped by the Elephant Seal Refuge just north of San Simeon for a little while to shoot. It's amazing that for as much as the seals just lay there not moving for hours on end it seems, there actually is quite a bit of activity.
So here it looks...
I shot this tonight just prior to sunset at Pismo Beach California. I liked how the clouds formed an almost twister type shape.

The Focus this Friday is on California.
Pick out your California Landscape photos and add them to this thread.
I will start off with a few,

These are from Sequoia National Park
This is from a Sea Cave up in Pismo Beach that I shot from 2 weeks ago. There was a heavy marine layer, and I shot this with no people walking by and then a few with people walking by since I wasn't sure there would be enough background interest with the gray foggy skies. And when I went to...
I went down to San Diego on Sunday for a fun day at their old Mission church, some early Christmas decoration purchases and then over to the La Jolla and Sunset Cliffs area for sunset. This area here is a cool because it has some rock balls that are part of the rock shelf there. I have shot it...
Very early morning on a drive up the coast this last weekend I saw this view as I drove around a bend on the Pacific Coast Highway. I had to do a quick pull over and stop and back up a bit as I really liked the palm trees almost disappearing into the marine layer. This is south of Santa Barbara...
There is an issue with Uploading Photos (attachjments). I am not sure what the problem is, and I am looking into it. You can still try to Create your Threads and Upload your Photos, but it is hanging up during the Upload.
