    Rock Mt. drone shot

I was lucky to have the Snowy Creek approach to Rock Mt. all to myself on a beautiful Sunday yesterday. I brought my drone and A7r2, but didn't have time for much photography since I had to be home for dinner with company arriving from out of town. I barely made it to the ridge just below the...

Tourist Brochure shot at Artist Point

Most of the shots I got on a recent walk to Artist Point near the Mt. Baker ski area were zoomed into the dramatic peaks. These fellow hikers didn't know how well they were posing for me and my tele lens. Recent snow makes the peaks more dramatic.

    Artist Point

Some B&W from Artist Point in WA Cascade mountains near Mt. Baker. These were all shot with a Sony A7rII, most with the Sony 100-400mm at 400. I've posted more shots with a comparison of the four cameras I used over in Travelogue. Mt. Baker from Chain Lakes trail, iPhone 3 shots pano stitched...

Mt. Shuksan from Chain Lakes trail

I got this yesterday on a multi camera hike. I've written a long multi-shot thread in Travelogue comparing the 4 cameras I used. This was shot with a Sony A7rII with 24-105, which is still my favorite!

    Artist Point, WA

Artist Point is one of the best photo and easy hiking destinations in Washington's Cascades. Follow directions for the Mt. Baker ski area (which is misnamed because it sits on the lower slopes of Mt. Shuksan and you can only see Mt. Baker at a distance from the top of the chair lifts). Continue...

    Glacier Basin?

Like Glacier National Park, Glacier Basin in the central Cascades of Washington is loosing it's namesakes. Drone pano Here is the opposite view looking out of the basin down into the valley I hiked and rode my mountain bike up. The dramatic peaks on the left are the Wilman's Spires.

    Three Fingers Mt.

This was taken on an attempt to traverse from Big Bear to Whitehorse Mt. a few years ago. As far as I know we would have been the first to do it if my crampons hadn't given me a terrible blister on the 2nd day. This was late on the 1st day as we raced the setting sun to the summit of Three...

    Rainbow Over Pilchuck

Lk-Stevens-Rainbow096-pano-2 by Jim Dockery posted Sep 11, 2019 at 7:05 AM I was hoping for a nice sunset after enjoying the thunderheads over the mountains when my wife and I went for a walk yesterday. From the backyard a while later I noticed a bit of a rainbow, so sent the drone up to check...

    Sunrise Over The Cascades

Drone view from above my house this morning. After reading about dealing with noise in photos from my DJI MP2 I took 5 shot bursts today, layered, stacked as smart object, blended with median, flattened, then took the resulting images which were largely free of noise back into PS to stitch in...

    Sunrise Over The Cascades

Drone view from above my house this morning. For the first time with my Mavic 2 Po I used the stack - smart object - median method to combine 5 shot bursts to deal with noise. After doing that I stitched the 9 resulting images to create this pano. Edit, I just noticed when looking at a larger...

    Sunrise Clouds Forming

Looking east toward Glacier Pk. from the summit of Mt. Pilchuck at sunrise. It was clear when I woke up, but then clouds started forming at summit level until it was socked in a couple hours later.

Down the ridge into the mist

The view down the ridge from my bivy spot on Mt. Pilchuck last week. I wasn't psyched about sunrise when I woke up to clear skies, but the mountains made their own clouds as the sun warmed the air, eventually enveloping me in fog.

    Flying Through Circular Rainbows

I'm cross-posting this here to keep the drone discussions going. Click through to view in full HD to really see it (esp. the stars). Starts off with some time-lapses shot with my Sony A7rII, then goes to video from a DJI Mavic Pro 2. Time-lapse shots prepared in Lightroom. Video edited in...

    Playing with a glory rainbow

I was flying my drone around Mt. Pilchuck yesterday morning when the clouds started to build. I saw a glory rainbow forming above me, so I flew out and framed the mountain with the rainbow as an accent. It was incredible having the ability to place the camera where I wanted it to capture this...

    Sunset from Mt. Pilchuck

I was a bit bummed to find a group of young people already camped in Mt. Pilchuck's summit lookout on a Monday evening, but I know a good spot on a side ridge where I headed to drop my sleeping bag. Worked out great in the end - a new perspective, and the kids scrambled out onto the ridge...
