My wife and I are just finishing up a month long trip in our new truck camper. We started in Lake Stevens WA, stopped in Bend OR for a bit of X-skiing, then headed down to Death Valley with a couple days in The Alabama Hills. More adventures in AZ and UT followed.
I haven't had time to process...
Last week after 2 long nights of shooting Deep Space Astro in Joshua Tree National Park, I had planned to leave mid morning to head home after a bit of scouting around out in the desert. By the time I was done running around including trail running up 1500 feet up Ryan Mountain, I noticed that...
Well, this rock was zigging so I had to go zagging. :)
This is from 8 years ago at Death Valley at the Race Track. At the time there was the occasional rock being moved or replaced, but it wasn't too common as it is now where I would guess less the 10% of the rocks are on their original tracks...
Joshua Tree's have very long life spans, and it's always interesting to see them shepherding over the rest of the desert. This is from last week and how I spent my morning hours after having spent the previous night doing Deep Space Astro.
All comments are welcome,
Jim
After a long night of Deep Space photography, I took a quick 45min nap to get up to shoot the last of the stars with my 14mm which then turned to sunrise. :) I haven't processed my 14mm star shots yet, because I really liked the way the sunrise turned out. Not too long before sunrise there...

Most everyone knows I love staying up at night to shoot the Milky Way and the stars. Once in a while I will play around after shooting the Milky Way and shoot some star trails too. This is more of a fun shot, as you never quite know what you will get.
This is a 45min single exposure. Most often...
I have decided to think of Airglow as a Mini Aurora. :) It might be the closest I get to an aurora, and where I used to try and get rid of it when I process the photos now I have decided to embrace it.
This was when Ben, Jeffrey and I got together last week for a fun few days...
This is from my recent meetup with Ben when we were shooting at Skyline Overlook in Utah. I had a great time shooting with him. One of your sunrises we didn't have clouds so we had to work the sun the a bit. This is at f16 with the Sigma 14mm.

Manley Beacon is that iconic peak that is most often seen from Zabriskie Point. When thinking about shooting the Milky Way in Death Valley a week or so ago I was looking for something different as I have shot the Milky Way from Badwater and the Race Track a bunch of times, so as I was thinking...
Made a road trip through the Palouse with my brother and wife on Saturday with stops at the falls and Steptoe Butte. We didn't have time for many stops, but I got some gooduns anyway, a few drive-by shots even came out nicely thanks to the fabulous clouds.

This was from a week ago at Joshua Tree. While Arch Rock is super cool, I find the area around it to be very fascinating with lot's of cool shaped rocks and formations. This is one of them, with Arch Rock basically being behind the rocks on the left side of the photo for reference.
The Milky...
This was from a few nights ago as I ran out to Joshua Tree to shoot the Milky Way. The moon was setting about 2:30 so that gave me until 4:30 to get some nice moon shots. I ended up spending a majority of that time helping someone else out, so I couldn't focus too much on shooting the Milky Way...
A continuation of the surprise I was given on my recent trip a few days ago to Joshua Tree. I had gone out there solely with the intent to shoot the Milky Way that night, but I was totally surprised by the welcome I got from the wildflowers in the upper desert.
So here are a couple of more...
So I ran out to Joshua Tree National Park on Thursday mainly to shoot the Milky Way. The moon was getting larger and staying out longer, but there was going to be a 2 hour window from 2:30am to 4:30am where the Milky Way would still be very bright.
What I didn't expect was wildflowers to be out...
Please welcome her Majesty:
