A few from my DoD trip

Starting at White Sands & ending on a ridge above Los Alamos, I decided that this was the Dept of Defense trip. My brand new tent got a good inauguration (which it passed with flying colors) during a 7 hour thunderstorm at White Sands. It's the first time my dog stayed in the tent with me once it started to flap in the wind. These super light fabrics they use now make a much lighter sound than the old ripstop nylon. She got as far as poking her nose out under the fly before spending the rest of the night curled up next to me. I finally got a few hours of sleep after the wind stopped around 2am. This was a handheld pano taken as the first drops were coming down.

After a few hours sleep, my neighbors over the next dune awoke me with their voices, so I got up to find a place for sunrise. Watching the colors on the white sand change was amazing and I was busy turning to shoot in different directions.

The sand verbena added some nice color, too

And these are the people who woke me up. After finding them in this composition I was feeling much more charitable toward them.

After leaving White Sands, I stopped through the Ojito badlands and ended up on a ridge above Los Alamos. As I was watching the clouds, it occurred to me that maybe I should take a picture.... This is a handheld pano of what seemed to be clouds appropriate to the Manhattan Project.

Are you sure you won't glow in the dark after shooting those clouds over Los Alamos? :D (neat color show BTW).

Neat set - sounds like a fun trip. Your tent with the storm is a nice kickoff and I especially like the light, shadows, and contours in #4. The nice pastels at the skyline and the wavy little ridge lines make a pleasing composition. The sand verbena also stand out for my eyes.

I'm not sure at all.....if you think you're seeing an aurora in Colorado or Wyoming this summer, that may be me!

Great set, and story. I really like the verbena, and of course the nuclear sunset over Las Alamos. Now I really want to see a shot of your dog!

Here she is, Jim. And some iPhone shots of the trailhead when we came out. That's my FJ on the left.

Awesome photos Monika! I will look at them in more detail tomorrow, when I can stop for a moment and appreciate them better.

This is a really nice set, Monika. It is a great story with wonderful images. Did you take some other images with reflections? I also didn't know that sand verbena grew there. Were the Yuccas in bloom yet?

Douglas, the parking lot was the only place that the rain didn't just soak into the sand, so no, I didn't take any more reflection shots.

Sand verbena was all over the place there. It's a nice contrast to all the white sand.

Really nice set. The rainbow over your tent is really cool and the verbena shot is sweet. Not to mention that color over Los Alamos...
