A little on the Shi Shi side

Back from PNW 1. Don Hall, Martin and I took a couple days to stake out Shi Shi Beach overnight. So we did the mud slog, then down the cliff, and the stretch along the beach. We were greatly rewarded by a beautiful sunset, a perfect night for camping, and a lovely morning. Don had a new pack, fit his sleeping bag and gear perfectly, but somehow left out the tent. So we had a big fire to keep him warm without a tent, but he got so close to the fire as the flames went down that he burned his bag.

He's a super photographer and has great vision for compositions, so we were blessed to be in his company.

Here was the sunset.

Beautiful sunset from one of the places along the Washington coast I have yet to visit.
And. really. want. to. visit.....

Fun tale you spin to go along with the sunset. I had dinner with Don, Jim, and Carlo at PNW III the night before you showed up but he didn't stay and went back to the Seattle area after dinner.

This is awesome Bart! What a really cool shot and what a tale to remember.

I hope to still get to Shi Shi one of these days.

Great shot, a great time no doubt, to bad about the tent. That is some muddy hike in and out of there, definitely bring your mud boots.
With the image, i might try cropping off the bottom dead space and some on the left, just to get closer to the sea stacks.

Thanks to all. It was a great time and great adventure. Martin had his "wellies"; I opted for some old running shoes I could eventually throw away when I got back. One of the challenges was finding the right spot to get the permit; the second was trying to get a good salmon dinner afterwards -- everyone was sold out. Eventually the locals kindly got on the phone and located someone who had some fresh salmon and got it to the store.

Zeph, I like the idea of the crop, thanks.

Hey Bart. Nice pic, shows what a perfect evening it was. You forgot to mention the total eclipse of the moon that night..................

The hardest part of that trip was envisaging the climb back up that cliff to get out. It was easier than feared as I followed Don's technique of "just look at where you feet are - never up!" My memory is Halibut, rather than salmon. o_O

Nicely done. I've only been there once, but loved it and will return. We stayed 2 nights so we could spend a day hiking south - fewer people - but watch the tides for your return!

Jim, I would love to have travelled more south, and if I were to do it again, for sure I'd plan a little more time. We were quite busy for the entire 2 days we were there, with great scenes all about. We timed it for -2 tides, and for sure, that's the way to go.

Nice image and story, Bart. I've done a few epic journeys with Don going back to '03. Quite the knowledgable and adventurous guy.
